Jules Verne : Escales à Oran

Bernard Sinoquet

Abstract

April 29, 1894, Jules Verne wrote to Fernand de Cardaillac, district attorney in Oran (Algeria). The acquisition of this signed letter by the Amiens Métropole Libraries allows it to be viewed in perspective with the other documents kept in Amiens and dedicated to Jules Verne’s trips, including the handwritten "logbook" of the Saint-Michel II and III kept by Verne during his travels. This helps to clarify his Mediterranean cruises in 1878 and 1884 and recalls the special position of Algeria, then a French colony, in his work.
