Où donc situer le Great-Eyry ?

Jean-Michel Margot

Abstract

The last complete novel written by Jules Verne before his death was Master of the World (1904). The story begins in the mountains of North Carolina in the vicinity of a fantastic summit, the Great Eyry. Several North Carolinian authors claim to have located Verne's Great Eyry in the Appalachians in the western part of the state. This article examines their arguments and compares them with what we can know about the sources used by Jules Verne to situate his mountain in this part of the globe.
