Jules Verne: The First Important Interview or How North Against South was first published in America

Volker Dehs

Abstract

The first important interview of Jules Verne was conducted by an American journalist. This interview is largely unknown in its original and complete version. It is directly connected to the first publication in the United States of the novel North Against South (1887). It reveals its most important source of the novel, a book about the Civil War written by the Count of Paris. The friendship between him and Jules Verne seems to have influenced not only the setting, but also the plot of the novel.
